Vocational Minute
Lindsey Harmon is a Marketing Representative of First National Bank of Paragould and Jonesboro.  She has worked for FNB some 6 months is shoulder-deep in activities to promote the bank.  She graduated from ASU College of Business in 2005 and emphasized that she is in marketing NOT lending at the bank.  Sooooo, if you want a loan, see Chris or Brian…they will fix you up.

Super Senior
Taylor Randle is a senior at Valley View High School and is very busy there.  She participates in Volleyball, soccer, track and basketball.  She also is busy with National Honor Society and Fellowship of Christian Athletes.  She was All-Conference and All-State in Volleyball and held records in the mile and half-mile while running track.  She plans on attending Kansas State University on Scholarship and majoring in pre-veterinary.  Jerry Smith introduced Taylor’s mom, Shellie Randle.

Pot-O-Gold
Chair Pam called on a couple of her chairs to rouse action for the upcoming POG.  The POG will be held Saturday, March 11, 2006 at the Holiday Inn, Jonesboro.  Ticket Chair Mary Merrill informed us that of 200 tickets available, 53 are firmly committed, and 30 of those have paid.  Further, Mary said that the credit card account is up and available; see Mary for your CC transaction.  “Sell Tickets, sell, sell, sell.”
Prize Chair Ashley Pagan called for a meeting following the club meeting.  At last sight, several prize committee members were bumping heads to attack the prizes.  If you have a prize or know of an available prize for the POG, let Ashley know.

Hurricane Katrina Update
Jesse Stafford told the club that reps from the 3 Jonesboro clubs traveled to Bay St. Louis earlier this week to finalize plans for the community building project for BSL.  Many persons from across the USA were present and the daunting task was to whittle down the numbers to make the project more efficient.  Also, while in BSL, the group attended the regular Rotary meeting and it was the FIRST meeting since Katrina struck that the club ate something other than the RMEs given them by the military.  Jonesboro Rotarians presented the BSL Rotary Club with new Rotary Banners.

Group Study Exchange
The GSE to England will depart next Saturday.  Next year the GSE will travel to Brazil with an emphasis on Dentistry. If you know a dentist or “donist” of any sort, refer them to the club for possible travels to Brazil next year.

New Member Induction
Dan Trevathan was introduced by Dave Davidson and inducted by President Glenn.  Dan is married and the father of three.  He is a former professor at ASU where Dave was a prized student.  He has spent several years in banking and is currently heading up a new career.  Dan is an agent with Fred Dacus and Associates.  Dan was a Rotarian several years with Blytheville Rotary Club and was a former GSE member to Japan.

Good News
Ashley Pagan is going to be a moma.  She announced that the doctor announced that she is about 6 weeks pregnant…and Ashley is not ready to announce twins just yet.  Congratulations to Ashley!

Charles Harris recalled during all of the GSE talk that it was some 25 years ago that he sojourned to India as part of the GSE team from Jonesboro.  My how time flies!

Program
Margaret Holloway introduced Harry Hogue to the club.  His father, Lewis Hogue, accompanied him.  Harry is a sophomore at ASU, majoring in Spanish.  He has a brother and a 2-month old sister.     And he is blind.
Harry is a delightful person who related to URC members that he traveled to NYCity for a month last year to be trained with Valor, a seeing eye dog.  Dogs are trained for 2 years prior to matching up with a sight-impaired person.  But for whatever reason, things just didn’t seem to work out for Harry and Valor and Valor has returned to New York for additional training.  Harry returned to his white cane.  All is well.
Harry could see for 8 years and has been sightless for about 11.  He lives in Twin Towers on the ASU campus and to his knowledge there are 2 other blind persons on campus…and he has a class with one of them.  His goal is to live independently and be a Spanish interpreter following college.  Harry, our collective hats are off to you.
Best Wishes for a full future!!!

Four Way Test
Ken Stacks led the 4-Way Test: First, Is it the truth, Is it fair to all concerned, will it build goodwill and better friendships, will it be beneficial to all concerned.

Next Week’s Program
Leslie Pruitt will be the program next Thursday.
Until then, sell a ticket for Mary and steal a prize for Ashley.

Good Night from your February Editor, Rick Carter.
