Program
The last issue of Rotary World included a lot of information about hurricane relief projects from Rotary Clubs throughout the world. Jesse Stafford along with Brent Stidman led discussion of the efforts from the three Jonesboro Rotary Club’s in Hurricane Relief.
Despite the technical difficulties in the video presentation, Jesse and Bob brought out the impact of the club’s contributions on the area. Over $53,000 in cash was collected for relief. There were 3,500 people served during Thanksgiving. 75 volunteers from here were a part of it.
There were 8 tractor trailer loads of supplies sent down with a value of well over $150,000. There were well over 300 volunteers from our area who worked more than a combined total of one year of labor (2,293 hours) to assist .
There is 39 million cubic feet of debris still in the area. This is roughly 800,000 dump truck loads. The three Jonesboro Rotary Clubs have formed a partnership with the Club in Bay St. Louis to help rebuild the area. There is a club in Vermont that has committed to provide financial and manpower support that would like to help. Our clubs will be a “middle man” for the process. Many clubs want to help, but just don’t know how. We will provide that conduit.
