Vocational Minute - Rob Delaney Much to his surprise!!!
Rob is the controller for Paxton Media. His office is at the Jonesboro Sun. He started in the news business in West Virginia fifteen years ago. Since then he has worked in Louisiana, Georgia, Ohio, and now Arkansas.
Miracle Rodeo – Darrell Floyd
Craighead County Sheriff’s Mounted Patrol sponsors the Miracle Rodeo for special needs young people. The mock rodeo allows approximately 125 young people participate in this worthwhile activity. Volunteers are needed October 29th anytime from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00p.m. Those interested in helping can contact Mr. Floyd.

*****Glenn Bowers – Reminder to club members that the Vocational Excellence Award is to be given the end of the month. Nominations need to be turned in as soon as possible.
*****Mark Young - Boston Butts
Sign-up sheets for butt sales were on each table. Money can be turned in beginning next week. Also sign-up sheets to help rub, wrap, deliver, and clean-up were also available. Our goal is to raise $5000 which is the cost of funding one “Wish”.
****Pam Kail – Reminded members of the joint Rotary Meeting at ASU on Tuesday, October 18th from 11:30 to 1:00 at the Convocational Center. Dr.Wyatt will be speaking on the “State of ASU”.
*****Pam Kail – A joint Rotary tailgate party will be held before the Troy State football game at the ASU Pavilion. Area clubs will also be invited to participate. More information later.
*****Debra Taylor – The club collected 102 lbs. of foot for the Food Bank last week. She read a letter from the Food Bank thanking the club for the donation. Food can be brought all month if you forgot to bring yours. Some of the food is being sent to help the people of Bay St. Louis, Mississippi, devastated by Hurricane Katrina.

Induction of New Members
Brian Clem introduced Lindsey Harmon. She is a native of Jonesboro and a graduate of Arkansas State University with a degree in marketing. She is employed by First National Bank. Sherry is the daughter of Sherry and Don Harmon. Don is one of the Charter Members of the University Rotary Club.
Chris Reddick is a native of Marmaduke and a graduate of Arkansas State University. He is married to Dr. Stephanie Reddick, who is principal of Brooklyn Intermediate School. They have a son Clay. Chris is Vice President of Lending at First National Bank.

*****Len Frey – has been named Dear of the College of Business at ASU.
*****Cheryl Davis – her daughter was elected to the Board of Directors of American Institute of Architecture.
*****Glenn Bower – is one of three people for director or Research and Development at Syngenta.
*****Rusty Clark – went to Washington to represent Arkansas as Middle School Principal of the Year.
*****Mike Webb – Encouraged everyone to go to the ASU football game Thursday night.
Chris Blanchard Memorial Football Picks - There was a four way tie between Mickey Stafford, Mary Merrill, Josh Fletcher, and Jim Steele. Mary Merrill won it with the tie breaker.

Jerry Smith introduced Jim Corter who presented “The System of Networking”.
Networking is nothing more than connecting with people. He gave twelve “Tips for Networking Opportunities”
- Attend meeting

- Memorize names – say a persons name at least three times.
- Introduce yourself and have a 15 second commercial about what you do.
- Ask questions of the person with whom you are talking. Find out what is important to them.

- Volunteer to be a leader – give back to the community
- Risk not knowing. You don’t have to have all the answers
- Consider a leadership role. Be a mentor- help others be a winner
- Go to conferences – network
