GOOD NEWS
1. Jay Clevenger remembered the weather as cold and chilly, but the celebration warm and bubbly as the 3 Jonesboro Rotary Clubs gathered to dedicate Rotary Centennial Park at Craighead Forest Park. Many URCers participated and Dennis Zopher and Jason Wilkey received Paul Harris Fellows for the work on the project.
2. Glenn Bower and wife Pam vacationed in beautiful Montana and while there made up a Rotary meeting with the Rotary Club of Whitefish, Montana. Dr. Glenn now declares he has experienced food worse than we have at URC!
3. Dr. Joe Stallings had 3 items of Good News: (a) daughter and artist Jeni Stallings opened a 24 day exhibit and purchase opportunity at Lross Ga! llery in Memphis. The exhibit began April 6 and to date has sold 8 pieces and they are not inexpensive. Beauty IS in the eye of the beholder and so far, 8 persons have been willing to pay a fair price for beauty. Joe invited us all to travel to Memphis and behold for ourselves. The gallery address is 5040 Sanderlin Ave and the show will run through April 30. (b)AHEC Northeast which Dr. Joe heads up had a good site visit from the medical powers-that-be in Arkansas. Joe feels good about the inspection and looks forward to many years go come. (c) another of Joe’s “daughters” Molly Phillips who has presented to URC before is herself a new moma. She recently gave birth to little daughter “Little Kate.”

4. Joy Vaupel echoed Jay Clevenger’s comments about Rotary Centennial Park; and Joy just returned from North Carolina where she and hubby visited precious grandchildren. Joy was overwhelmed by her 5 year old granddaughter who was OUTSTANDING in a play which grandma attended.
5. ! Greg Chance from KASU and one of URC’ers most loyal attendees gave a brief update on a recent mishap on the ASU campus. He collided his trusty motor scooter with an immovable object and something had to give, namely Greg’s body. All is healing up.
6. Gary Childers had $2 worth: Daughter Hailey will be attending Ole Miss in the fall and entering the early entry Pharmacy program which mom Marketta completed some few years ago. The second bit of good news was about Gary’s long-time lunch buddy Broderick Crawford. Gary befriended Broderick about 7 years ago through the Lunch Buddy Program. Gary attended as a representative of University Rotary Club. Broderick was a 5th gra! der at Hillcrest and Gary stayed the course and would not give up on Broderick. It was a challenge but Gary’s persistence in making a difference in Broderick’s life paid off. Broderick is graduating with Honors at JHS and has accepted a Scholarship to attend ASU and be a basketball manager for Dickey Nutt. Further, Broderick is the recipient of scholarships from Jonesboro Kiwanis and Shield of Shelter Insurance. Gary deserves highest of praise for the personal interest in this young man’s life. It will pay dividends.
PROGRAM
Dr. Greg Phillips introduced Dr. Jim Pittcock who presented about ASU Regional Farmers Market. Dr. Pittcock is directing the program located on the ASU campus on the northeast corner of Aggie Road and Stadium. The market will open Saturday, May 5, 2007, at 7:00 a.m. Beginning in mid-June, the market will open Tuesdays 3pm – 7 pm. Saturdays will open 7 am until sold out.
The Rules of the market emphasize “local.” Vendors are welcome from Arkansas and/or within 100 miles of Jonesboro. There is no membership fee required as was the case last year. The cost to sell this year is a daily booth fee of $20.00. If this is too steep for a person, the market will allow coops where 3-4 persons can go together and share the booth fee and sell their goods collectively. Also, the crafts must be homemade and all vendors must follow the rules of the Arkansas Department of Health.
! THE 4 WAY TEST: Pam Kail led the 4 way test: First, is it the truth, will it be beneficial to all concerned, will it build goodwill and better friendships, will it be beneficial to all concerned?
