Announcements

Paul announced that a GSE team from Brazil will be in Jonesboro April 23-26.  Two host families are needed from our club.  Please contact him if you can help.  Donn added that daytime responsibilities will be taken care of for the team members; it is a rewarding experience, especially if you have children at home.  Vocational and day hosts will be needed while they are here.

Camp Enterprise is tomorrow (February 9!).  Alan requested some help from someone with a finance background (banker).  Thirty-two students are expected to participate.  The program will begin at 8:00am in the student union.

Rusty announced that Sheila has been working on having billboards put him.   To avoid “stealing her thunder,” he did not give specifics.  We’ll have to hear more next week.

We will be cleaning out the storage room is THIS SATURDAY.    There is lots to throw away/clean out, so please come to the storage facility next to the putt-putt place on Parker Road at 9:30am if you can help (#250).

Jesse Stafford presented a nice award to the club that was presented by the NE Arkansas Business Awards Banquet earlier this month.   The award acknowledges out contribution to Katrina relief effort.  The three Rotary Clubs and local community donated over $1 million in good and funds to the Bay St. Louis area.

Good News – none collected

Program – ASU Chancellor Potts

Dr. Robert Potts, a fellow Rotarian, addressed the club and acknowledged the hard work of the ASU faculty and staff in the room.  He also shared several canine jokes and bits of wisdom, including that we should “all be as great a person as our dog thinks we are.”

Dr. Potts identified several strengths of ASU, including the tremendous economic impact of ASU on the community (over ˝ billion dollars a year).  Currently the enrollment exceeds a record of over 10,000 students.  The average ACT scores also exceed national and state averages.  Alumni support is also strong.

Dr. Potts complimented the hard work that has been directed towards strategic, enrollment, and infrastructure planning.  The housing needs continue to grow, and research efforts continue to expand.

Dr. Potts (and his wife) are speak very highly of their new hometown, and we are happy to welcome them to the community.
