Jay Clevenger gave an update on the golf tournament. Many good compliments were given by all. Press coverage was good. Over 200 people attended the High School Shootout on Thursday. The Junior Golf Clinic went well with over 30 young golfers toning up their game by the end of the week. Optus, Kroger, Pepsi, Central Buick and Heartland Tours are on board for next year and the purse for the pro golfer’s tournament will be $50,000. The tournament will probably be held the 2nd or 3rd week of September in 2007. A firm date will be set later. A big thanks goes out to everyone who helped and especially to Jay who did an excellent job putting it all together and being there during the entire tournament.
Jane Jamison passed out a schedule of Super Seniors for the rest of the year. There was no Super Senior this week.
Josh Fletcher announced no football picks for last week but it is picking up again this week.
Ken Stacks announced that nominations for the Vocational Excellence Award have ended.
In lieu of a speaker a Club Assembly was held. Club members gave updates on local and district projects and committees.
Sam Wright gave an update on Chris Carlisle Memorial Park. He noted that more water heads are needed for the sprinkler system. There is talk of reworking or taking out the flower beds. There are 2 more weeks of watering the new trees. Chris’ class had a reunion and took up a collection and donated a gift certificate at Huey’s Nursery for the club to pick out a tree or something else for the park.
Rhonda Irving updated us on The Dictionary Project. Sign up sheets were on the tables for members to volunteer to deliver the dictionaries. A Thesaurus has been added this year for 4th graders. We will deliver to Bay, Brookland, Riverside East, Riverside West, Ridgefield Christian, Blessed Sacrament, Concordia and Buffalo Island. The books are ordered. Target delivery date is October 25. There will be a work night at BancorpSouth to put the book plates in the books. This work night will be scheduled as soon as the books arrive. Please e-mail Rhonda if you would like to help deliver the books and/or if you can help with putting the book plates in.
John Shannon talked about the Healthy Smiles project. Delta Dental will be assisting the club with this project. Each 2nd grader will receive a kit containing toothbrush, etc. Coloring books have been ordered that will go in the kits. These books will not be in until the end of December so the project will probably be kicked off in January. More to come on this project in the next few months.
Pam Kail reported that the date for 2007 Pot of Gold will be March 11. Len Frey will be sending out a survey to ask what area each club member wants to participate in. From this he will ask for committee chairs and workers.
Jerry Smith passed out an update of Rotary District 6150 upcoming dates. Please mark your calendars for District Assembly April 21, 2007 in Beebe and District Conference May 4 through 6, 2007 in Little Rock. Any questions about these meetings or other district events please contact Jerry or go to the district website.
Glenn Bowers reported on Simplified Grants through the district. He is heading up the grants program on the district level. Our club received grant funds last year and has applied for grant funds again this year. These funds help us with the funding of local projects. If you have not already, please consider contributing to the Rotary Foundation. Part of these funds comes back to our club in the way of these grants.
Les Wyatt will be our speaker next week.
Four Way Test – Rob Delaney
