Program
Dr. Stephen Lunde with Home Instead Senior Care, which provides assistance with non-medical needs of the elderly, discussed the impacts of an aging population, particularly with regard to the impacts of caring for an elder relative. Nearly one-half of all workers will provide services for elders, and 70 percent of employers will have staffing difficulties related to employees having to provide care, Lunde said. Forty percent of employers have no plan to assist employees who are caregivers, he said. One study calculated $11.5 billion in direct costs to employers including replacing workers who quit their jobs to care for relatives, job absenteeism, and interruption to the workday because of care crises. Only 5 percent of seniors have long-term care insurance, Lunde said.
Four Way Test
Cheryl Davis led the 4-Way Test: First, Is it the truth, Is it fair to all concerned, will it build goodwill and better friendships, will it be beneficial to all concerned.
