Program

Dr. Carole Cramer is the Executive Director at the Arkansas Biosciences Institute at Arkansas State University.  She gave an update on what is happening at the ABI.  The building and program were originally funded with tobacco settlement funds.  They were set up to research at the interface of agriculture and medicine. The Center conducts research in support of economic development and to create positive, long term impacts on health.

There are a number of fascinating research projects going on that involve plants and some animals.  She stated that “Research is cool – impact is better!”

They have used outreach to bring in students to study the research on the DNA of strawberries.  They also did Crime Scene Investigation Camp last summer.

They are also encouraging economic development through science and technology.
